Simple Front Yard Landscaping on a Budget
It is amazing what a few small changes can do in updating landscaping. Even without a big budget, you can make some small changes that can make a substantial impact. Our front yard landscaping has really bneeded some TLC. We have some big projects we still need to tackle, but those are going to have to wait until the budget gets a little bit bigger. In fact, we may even have to hire out for a few of these projects (retaining wall, anyone?). But just because we couldn’t tackle it all at once, doesn’t mean we couldn’t start with a few simple front yard landscaping projects on a budget.
1. Mailbox Landscaping
It’s amazing what a few simple changes to your mailbox can do. Creating a small area around your mailbox is such an easy front yard landscaping idea that anyone can do. We grabbed a few extra stones from our retaining wall and used them to frame off our mailbox. The stones aren’t actually retaining wall stones (hence the reason we need to redo the wall), so they worked perfectly for the space. We then added some flowers around the mailbox to liven up the area. Such a simple project that we completed in just a couple hours and it looks great!
2. Plant a Tree With Fast Growing Trees
We used to have a beautiful Bradford Pear Tree in our front yard that I absolutely loved. When it bloomed it brought so much life to our front yard landscaping it really made the curb appeal. It died two years ago thanks to some nasty beetles we have here in Missouri. I have really missed that tree! Not to mention, it offered some great shade to the front of our house preventing the kids’ rooms from getting too hot in the afternoon. Front yard landscaping can serve a dual purpose!
I stumbled upon Fast Growing Trees, the largest online nursery in the world. When the need for a greater selection of plants and trees was discovered by the founder of Fast Growing Trees, the idea of the world’s largest online nursery began. Trees sold in stores were lacking in selection and quality. Fast Growing Trees is committed to well developed root systems enabling plants to grow and thrive. Not only are their plants exploding with new growth, they are easy to grow too. You can search the world’s largest online nursery and discover so many options and have them delivered straight to your door as early as the next day!
I knew I wanted a flowering tree and Fast Growing Trees made finding one easy! You can choose the area that you live in, the type of tree you want, and use those parameters to find the perfect tree! I fell in love with the Autumn Cherry tree when I heard it bloomed in both the spring and fall! I loved the idea of having two blooming seasons. Fast Growing Trees makes it easy to have any questions answered with their live horticulturists ready to answer any questions you may have. The selection of trees was way better than we could find at any local store!
When our tree arrived it came complete with everything we needed to help it grow. We added on the Organic Planting Mix and the Root Rocket Fertilizer to give our tree a good start! Figuring out how to plant the tree was just as easy as purchasing the tree (besides trying to decide on one – there are so many options!). There was a website provided that we could reference and the Fast Growing Trees team is on standby to help if you need it. The whole process was smooth! I was even surprised how healthy the tree was when it arrived!
I am so happy with the way our tree looks in our front yard and I cannot wait to see it grow. The kids think of it as part of our family, and I think we are all going to enjoy watching our Autumn Cherry bloom and grow!
3. Porch Decor Ideas
Porch decor ideas can be so fun! There is so much you can do to a front porch to update your landscaping. You can choose to go seasonal and have your porch decor reflect the different Holidays or seasons, or go for more of a neutral look. Since I am trying to stick to a budget, I like to find pieces that can transition well through different seasons. I shopped around my home for a few things and pulled the sign and bench from what I already had. The layered doormat look is one of my favorites, so I added a striped doormat to pull the colors in, and then found one with a sweet message to welcome our guests. The doormats really pulled the front porch decor together!
4. Fresh Paint
Never underestimate what a fresh coat of paint can do to your front yard decor. A couple years ago we painted our mailbox post and it made a huge difference in our front yard decor. This year, I decided to give our door a face lift! Yep, that’s right. I painted our front door! While choosing a color was scary, painting the front door was an easy front yard update that made a huge difference in curb appeal! I wanted the door to be a statement for the home and I think I accomplished that! Don’t be afraid to get brave with the color you choose for your front door, anything can go. Just be sure to take into account the front of your house and how it will all blend together. You will be surprised how much a painted front door can do to update your front yard decor.
Our front yard refresh came together perfectly and I love the way our front yard landscaping pulled together this year. I know we are far from finished with these projects, but this was a great start! These simple changes were perfect for updating landscaping overall and is making a lasting impression on our visitors. I am excited to see how are Autumn Cherry from Fast Growing Trees continues to grow over the next year.
