Why You Need A Summer Checklist for Kids

Have you ever felt like getting your kids to do something was a big headache? No parent likes to repeat themselves all day in attempt to get their child to accomplish one thing. It is frustrating for everyone involved. But, did you know that when kids know exactly what is expected of them, they can thrive? If your kids are thriving, so are you! Prevent the headache of repeating yourself all summer long and help your kids know just what to expect with a summer checklist for kids.

Summer Schedule for Kids

As parents, we all long for the relaxed atmosphere that comes with summer. No one is having to rush the kids out the door in the morning, have breakfast on the table at an exact time, or accomplish errands in a small window of time. Summer schedules tend to lend themselves to a more laid back feel that we all love…until we don’t. There does come a time when too much relaxed days can end up in chaos. Before you know it, the kids will be fighting more, the house will be messy, and you won’t feel like you have accomplished anything.

Establishing a summer schedule for kids can make a huge difference. Your summer schedule doesn’t have to be rigid and it can lend to more of a relaxed feel, but having it in place can keep chaos away. You will be thankful that you didn’t get too carried away with the summer.

Whatever summer schedule you come up with, be sure to include a time where kids can complete their summer checklist. If this is already fit into your day, then the kids will know when they are expected to complete their summer checklist.

Why you need a summer checklist for kids:

No parent likes feeling like they have to nag their kids, a summer checklist opens the door for them to take responsibility themselves. A summer checklist can be put in a place where the kids have easy access, and they can complete it at the time that works best for your family. You shouldn’t have to follow your kids around reminding them of every task they need to complete because the list does that for you. The summer checklist for kids is a great way for them to learn responsibility! Not only is a summer checklist great for responsibility, it’s great to keep a rhythm and routine to your days. Kids thrive on routine, so keeping something in place can make a difference!

Encourage your children to complete daily chores by rewarding them.

Your kids have the chance to not only take responsibility with their summer checklist, but they can also earn rewards for completing chores. Rewarding your children is a great way for them to be encouraged in what they are doing. A little encouragement goes a long way. For each week your child completes their chore list, reward them with something! Whether you choose to do money, a fun treat, a family day out, or something else – it’s up to you!

Give your kids something to look forward to when the job is done.

I am a big fan of incentives that encourage our kids to get things done. Some people would argue that we shouldn’t have to offer something in return, but do you ever encourage yourself that if you do the dishes you can watch a show? Or maybe you can watch a show as long as you fold laundry at the same time? Sometimes it helps to motivate us when we have something to look forward to. My kids know the rule, no kindle time unless their summer checklist and daily chore is done! I also implement a sticker chart for the kids, every day they complete a chore a sticker gets added to the chart. When the chart is full, we have an extra fun family day to celebrate!

Remind your kids why what they are doing is important.

A phrase I repeat to my kids often, “we work together to take care of our home because it is a blessing!” God blessed us with our home, so why wouldn’t we want to take care of it! Our family is a team, so working together to get the job done is the best way to do it!

This free summer checklist is the perfect printable to keep your kids on task this summer!

This summer checklist will take pressure off of you, and get your kids involved in helping! It is such a great way to teach everyone responsibility, and team work! Sign up for my newsletter below to grab your kids’ summer checklist!

You deserve to exist, with the same grace and love You deserve to exist, with the same grace and love that you so freely give to your family. It’s not just about holding space for them; it’s about holding space for you, too.

You don’t have to shrink yourself to make room for others.

You deserve to take up space too.
Sometimes, the habits that helped us survive becom Sometimes, the habits that helped us survive become the hardest to unlearn. Those patterns once kept you safe, but now you’re learning they don’t need to anymore.

Give yourself grace—you’re unlearning survival. Healing takes time, and with each layer you peel back, you’re discovering the person you’ve always been beneath the survival.

And if you’re anything like me, you’ll really learn to love her. ❤️
✨ NEW SEASON ✨ I’m not a big fan of change. ✨ NEW SEASON ✨

I’m not a big fan of change. My nervous system gets all panicky and tends to over research every possibility that could take place. It likes to tell me safety is in the details.

But I know that’s not true.

This year has been a big year of growth for me in this department. Trauma told me control was my safety, but the truth was all I ever had was a false sense of control.

This year has offered plenty of opportunities for me to say, “Okay God, you have my yes, wherever that leads.”

No over research. No over analyzing. No predicting every possibility. No trying to control the outcome.

Just a heart that says, “Yes.”

Even when I don’t understand. Even when I’m nervous how it will turn out. Even when it feels like right now isn’t bad. Even when my heart’s confused.

Even when….

God has been asking us both a lot lately, “Do I have your yes, no matter what that looks like?” Friday was the end of a season for Chad working at the Appliance Guys, and today starts a new season of a new company. It was NOT an easy decision, and it came with a lot of tears (mainly from me - are you surprised?). His boss, where he’s been for the last almost six years, has been an incredible support for our family as we walked through some of the hardest seasons of our family. They will always hold a special place in our heart.

But God said “it’s time” and my faith-filled husband said “Yes.” I have to admit, I don’t envy how hard this decision was for him. It affects us both, yes. But he had to walk it out. And I’m so grateful for His leadership and faith to Jesus to step into the next season when there are so many unknowns.

Sometimes, all God wants to know is does He have our “YES” no matter what that means. No matter what that changes.

May I live my life in a way that has an open heart to hear from God and a willingness to say “YES” even when….

(PS he was so thrilled I made him take this photo. 😂 But I know this season will be one we forever ever want to remember, because God always shows His faithfulness).
I wonder if they would have chosen life for her. I wonder if they would have chosen life for her.

I wonder if they would have seen what was growing inside of her, and the fight that was about to come on the other side, if they would have said her life was worth saving.

I wonder if they would have discounted her before she had a chance.

I wonder if they would have made a prediction about her quality of life and deemed her not worth the cost.

I wonder if they would have saw the life saving measures she would need and decided that it was worse to let her live.

I wonder if they would have saw everything that could go wrong, the bleak prognosis, and compared her to statistics.

I wonder if they would have made a choice to encourage a decision that robbed us all of the miracle we see today.

Whether 48 hours or 4 years - her life has changed mine for the better. It’s heartbreaking to think someone may have once told me she wasn’t worth it.
