A Healthy Snack Hack To Make Eating Healthy Simple

This post is sponsored by Hiland Dairy but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

I’m going to be one hundred percent honest with you here…healthy eating is not easy. There I said it. If you feel the same way, then know you’re not alone. Healthy eating can be complicated because it takes a little more thought beforehand. When you’re a busy mom, it can seem as if it is just one more item to add to your to do list. Sometimes it’s easier to reach for that candy bar than it is to reach for a handful of grapes or fresh veggies. As busy moms we are always on the go and healthy eating can take the backseat, but it shouldn’t.

Healthy eating is important to helping us have the sustained energy we need throughout the day. Being a mom is hard. Keeping up with busy kids is hard. Our bodies need to be fueled with good food so that we can keep up with everything on our plate. Not to mention, the healthier I eat, the healthier I feel. And when I am feeling good about what I am eating, I feel empowered to encourage my family to eat healthy as well.

Choose Healthy Snacks

The best way to make healthy eating simple is to prepare in advance. You don’t have to be someone who preps all your meals on the weekend, to be honest, I’m not really someone who can manage that either. But taking time to make a meal plan for the week ahead can help you choose healthy lunches and dinners. Where many people fall short is choosing healthy snacks. It’s easy and tempting to snack on easy things and you don’t realize how much grabbing a bag of chips or picking up a candy bar can add up. Choosing healthy snacks is important, so make it simple!

The first steps to making choosing healthy snacks easy is to have them readily available!

A Healthy Snack Hack to Make Eating Healthy Simple

Preparing snacks in advance can take very little time and make a big difference! We have a basket in our pantry that the kids know is their go to snack basket. Some of the snacks in here are the typical kid snacks like crackers, apple sauce, etc. But they also know that they can turn to the refrigerator for healthy snack options, which I usually point them to for their morning snack at least. I like to encourage them to choose at least one snack from the fridge bins a day to encourage healthy eating.

In the refrigerator we have two bins that are ready to go with healthy snacks. Most of these snacks are great options to grab and go or enjoy at home. The kids know that anything in these bins and baskets are fair game for them during snack time. They are ready prepared for easy grab and go for the kids. If fruit needs to be cut, I make sure it’s cut and divided into bags before placing them into the bins. Grapes are a favorite around here, so I always make sure to have those pre-cut and ready to go. Our schedule is pretty full these days, so the more snacks that we have on hand that can be easy to grab and go, the better.

Healthy Snacks

Our Hiland Dairy snacks are some of our favorites to keep on hand! Hiland Dairy smoothies and single serve cottage cheese make snacking on the go easy. They can be eaten as is, or paired with other ingredients for an awesome recipe! Hiland Dairy’s single serve cottage cheese is packed full of protein making it the perfect snack. There are various flavor options that are good on their own! Their brand new probiotic yogurt smoothies are a must have too! They are a new favorite in our home, especially the tropical flavors! Nothing makes eating healthier easier than delicious and better for you snacks!

Healthy Snacks for the Whole Family

Finding healthy snacks for the whole family is the key to being successful at making healthy choices. I’ve noticed that if it’s something I am trying to do alone, I won’t succeed. But when I pull the entire family in with me and make healthy snacks for the kids too, we are better at succeeding. Our entire family is set up to make healthy choices regularly, and still be able to splurge on something here and there. The more readily available healthy snacks are for the whole family, the better healthy eating habits you’ll make! Healthy eating doesn’t have to be a chore when you prepare in advance!

You deserve to exist, with the same grace and love You deserve to exist, with the same grace and love that you so freely give to your family. It’s not just about holding space for them; it’s about holding space for you, too.

You don’t have to shrink yourself to make room for others.

You deserve to take up space too.
Sometimes, the habits that helped us survive becom Sometimes, the habits that helped us survive become the hardest to unlearn. Those patterns once kept you safe, but now you’re learning they don’t need to anymore.

Give yourself grace—you’re unlearning survival. Healing takes time, and with each layer you peel back, you’re discovering the person you’ve always been beneath the survival.

And if you’re anything like me, you’ll really learn to love her. ❤️
✨ NEW SEASON ✨ I’m not a big fan of change. ✨ NEW SEASON ✨

I’m not a big fan of change. My nervous system gets all panicky and tends to over research every possibility that could take place. It likes to tell me safety is in the details.

But I know that’s not true.

This year has been a big year of growth for me in this department. Trauma told me control was my safety, but the truth was all I ever had was a false sense of control.

This year has offered plenty of opportunities for me to say, “Okay God, you have my yes, wherever that leads.”

No over research. No over analyzing. No predicting every possibility. No trying to control the outcome.

Just a heart that says, “Yes.”

Even when I don’t understand. Even when I’m nervous how it will turn out. Even when it feels like right now isn’t bad. Even when my heart’s confused.

Even when….

God has been asking us both a lot lately, “Do I have your yes, no matter what that looks like?” Friday was the end of a season for Chad working at the Appliance Guys, and today starts a new season of a new company. It was NOT an easy decision, and it came with a lot of tears (mainly from me - are you surprised?). His boss, where he’s been for the last almost six years, has been an incredible support for our family as we walked through some of the hardest seasons of our family. They will always hold a special place in our heart.

But God said “it’s time” and my faith-filled husband said “Yes.” I have to admit, I don’t envy how hard this decision was for him. It affects us both, yes. But he had to walk it out. And I’m so grateful for His leadership and faith to Jesus to step into the next season when there are so many unknowns.

Sometimes, all God wants to know is does He have our “YES” no matter what that means. No matter what that changes.

May I live my life in a way that has an open heart to hear from God and a willingness to say “YES” even when….

(PS he was so thrilled I made him take this photo. 😂 But I know this season will be one we forever ever want to remember, because God always shows His faithfulness).
I wonder if they would have chosen life for her. I wonder if they would have chosen life for her.

I wonder if they would have seen what was growing inside of her, and the fight that was about to come on the other side, if they would have said her life was worth saving.

I wonder if they would have discounted her before she had a chance.

I wonder if they would have made a prediction about her quality of life and deemed her not worth the cost.

I wonder if they would have saw the life saving measures she would need and decided that it was worse to let her live.

I wonder if they would have saw everything that could go wrong, the bleak prognosis, and compared her to statistics.

I wonder if they would have made a choice to encourage a decision that robbed us all of the miracle we see today.

Whether 48 hours or 4 years - her life has changed mine for the better. It’s heartbreaking to think someone may have once told me she wasn’t worth it.
