Grace is misunderstood.
It’s easily taken for granted because people don’t really understand it.
I mean how could we? Our natural tendency is not to forgive and forget. We don’t easily repay constant mistreatment with good. We tend to lash back out, or walk away entirely.
But what if we chose to love despite the wrong that was done to us?
As a parent, we will be tested to the limit. We will tell our children no, mad they will tell us no right back. We will be pushed and antagonized just so our children can see what it take for us to give in, or to break out the discipline. We will feel stretched to limits that we never thought possible. But still, when those big blue eyes look up at and say “I’m sorry mommy.” We will extend grace. Why? Because that’s what we do when we love someone that much. We don’t even second guess ourselves. We will offer grace time and time again, as many time as it take for our child to learn.
That’s what our heavenly Daddy does. He offers us grace time and time again simply because he loves us. But His love for us is far greater than what we can comprehend on earth. If we are such awful people, who can’t be perfect no matter how hard we try, then why would He offer us grace? Not once. Not twice. But over and over.
We can’t wrap our minds around that concept, because that’s not something we could do easily to just anyone. But that’s how strong the power of God’s love is for us.
