Travel Bags for Kids

Traveling with kids can be overwhelming and exhausting. Prepare ahead of time to keep the kids busy and full of snacks for smoother travel!

This post is sponsored by Earth’s Best® Peanut Butter Puffs but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Traveling with kids isn’t something many of us look forward to. The endless, “are we there yet” questions, the bickering in the car, and needing a snack every five minutes can get old really fast. Every year we pack our kids up, and all their things, and head out for a four hour drive. The more kids we have, and the older they have gotten, the more complicated the drive has become. They aren’t as easily entertained, they request many bathroom stops, and the snack supply has to be in full stock. Over the years I have figured out a few things that have helped make the process less stressful and offer a bit of a smoother travel journey.

Travel Bags for Kids

Creating a travel bag for kids is the perfect way to handle many of the problems that arise when traveling. By being prepared ahead of time with activities for kids and plenty of road trip snacks, it will lessen the amount of stress during the drive. You don’t have to make your travel bags complicated or over the top, all it takes is a few simple things to keep the kids busy and their bellies full. Each of my kids have a small back pack and we use this for our travel bags to keep everything together.

Road Trip Activities for Kids

One of the hardest tasks when travelling is keeping kids busy. Kids don’t like to sit in one place for long and have a hard time entertaining themselves or being patient. So providing little activities that keep their minds busy and distracted from the travel time can be helpful. Our vehicle has a DVD player, but even that doesn’t keep them entertained for very long. I also pack their Kindles but remind them that when it dies, they’re out of luck, so they may want to use their time on their Kindle wisely. Usually we resort to the Kindles during the last hour or so of the drive when the kids are really just burnt out on traveling.

In each of their bags I have their Kindle, a coloring book, and a road trip bingo game! These dry erase bingo cards were only a dollar and can be traded out between the kids to keep them busy! These small storage containers at Walmart are perfect to hold crayons for the kids in each of their bags as well! Keeping all of this in their backpacks close to them makes it easy for them to access and change road trip activities throughout the drive.

Road Trip Snacks for Kids

If you have young kids, this is probably one of the most important components of your holiday travel bags. Kids like to EAT! Grab a large bag and pack a variety of snacks that can last the entire trip. I tell my kids that this is all the snacks they will get, so to make sure they make it last! Look for a mixture of some of their favorites, and snacks that can offer protein and help to sustain them a little longer.

Earth’s Best® Peanut Butter Puffs are one of my go to choices when packing road trip snacks for the kids. There are no artificial flavors or colors, USDA certified organic, non- GMO, gluten free, only 5 ingredients, and no preservatives! There are 5g of protein in every serving making Earth’s Best® Peanut Butter Puffs a great choice for road trips. Did you know introducing foods containing ground peanuts at a young age and continuing consumption may reduce the risk of developing a peanut allergy by 5 years of age? For most infants with severe eczema and/or egg allergy who are already eating solid foods, introducing foods containing ground peanuts between 4 and 10 months of age and continuing consumption may reduce the risk of developing peanut allergy by 5 years of age. FDA has determined, however, that the evidence supporting this claim is limited to one study.

For more information check out this helpful video on allergen introduction.

Add in a few more of the kids favorites, one juice box, and you have the perfect road trips snacks for kids! There is plenty of options to keep them satisfied for snacks on the go!

Tips for Traveling with Kids

Having a travel bag packed and ready for the kids with easy access during a road trip will save you a lot of stress when traveling. I am so grateful that I have had this ready to go to make trips as smooth as possible. I also make sure to keep an emergency basket in the back of our car with an extra change of clothes for every kid, diapers and wipes in case we run out, first aid its, paper towels, and cleaning wipes. You can never be too careful when traveling with kids! Don’t forget to make sure they’re within reach, everyone goes potty before they leave, and you go in with as much patience as possible! You will be rocking this road trip thing in no time!

You deserve to exist, with the same grace and love You deserve to exist, with the same grace and love that you so freely give to your family. It’s not just about holding space for them; it’s about holding space for you, too.

You don’t have to shrink yourself to make room for others.

You deserve to take up space too.
Sometimes, the habits that helped us survive becom Sometimes, the habits that helped us survive become the hardest to unlearn. Those patterns once kept you safe, but now you’re learning they don’t need to anymore.

Give yourself grace—you’re unlearning survival. Healing takes time, and with each layer you peel back, you’re discovering the person you’ve always been beneath the survival.

And if you’re anything like me, you’ll really learn to love her. ❤️
✨ NEW SEASON ✨ I’m not a big fan of change. ✨ NEW SEASON ✨

I’m not a big fan of change. My nervous system gets all panicky and tends to over research every possibility that could take place. It likes to tell me safety is in the details.

But I know that’s not true.

This year has been a big year of growth for me in this department. Trauma told me control was my safety, but the truth was all I ever had was a false sense of control.

This year has offered plenty of opportunities for me to say, “Okay God, you have my yes, wherever that leads.”

No over research. No over analyzing. No predicting every possibility. No trying to control the outcome.

Just a heart that says, “Yes.”

Even when I don’t understand. Even when I’m nervous how it will turn out. Even when it feels like right now isn’t bad. Even when my heart’s confused.

Even when….

God has been asking us both a lot lately, “Do I have your yes, no matter what that looks like?” Friday was the end of a season for Chad working at the Appliance Guys, and today starts a new season of a new company. It was NOT an easy decision, and it came with a lot of tears (mainly from me - are you surprised?). His boss, where he’s been for the last almost six years, has been an incredible support for our family as we walked through some of the hardest seasons of our family. They will always hold a special place in our heart.

But God said “it’s time” and my faith-filled husband said “Yes.” I have to admit, I don’t envy how hard this decision was for him. It affects us both, yes. But he had to walk it out. And I’m so grateful for His leadership and faith to Jesus to step into the next season when there are so many unknowns.

Sometimes, all God wants to know is does He have our “YES” no matter what that means. No matter what that changes.

May I live my life in a way that has an open heart to hear from God and a willingness to say “YES” even when….

(PS he was so thrilled I made him take this photo. 😂 But I know this season will be one we forever ever want to remember, because God always shows His faithfulness).
I wonder if they would have chosen life for her. I wonder if they would have chosen life for her.

I wonder if they would have seen what was growing inside of her, and the fight that was about to come on the other side, if they would have said her life was worth saving.

I wonder if they would have discounted her before she had a chance.

I wonder if they would have made a prediction about her quality of life and deemed her not worth the cost.

I wonder if they would have saw the life saving measures she would need and decided that it was worse to let her live.

I wonder if they would have saw everything that could go wrong, the bleak prognosis, and compared her to statistics.

I wonder if they would have made a choice to encourage a decision that robbed us all of the miracle we see today.

Whether 48 hours or 4 years - her life has changed mine for the better. It’s heartbreaking to think someone may have once told me she wasn’t worth it.
