We are more than half way through July and the time for packing school lunches is going to be here before you know it. I don’t have extremely picky eaters, but I do have extremely opinionated eaters. My kids know what they like, but they also get bored with food easily. When it comes to picking their own food, they won’t always grab choices that provide them with a well-rounded lunch. So packing their lunch helps me to see what they’re eating, and what I need to encourage them to eat more.
Now Jase would take a Peanut Butter and Jelly every day if I let him. But I want him to expand his pallet a bit, and not stick to the same thing. I also want to make sure his lunches are packed full of substance to tie him over for the entire school day. So providing fun lunches is a great way to encourage him to eat new things!
To make lunch fun, I decided to try to let him be a part of building his own lunch. Pizza is a favorite around here so DIY Pizza Slider lunchables seemed like a safe try for school lunches!
Here’s what you need to pack your own DIY Pizza Slider lunchables
Pepperidge Farm® Bakery Classics Slider Buns – These are the perfect size for little hands and made with quality ingredients!
Pizza Sauce (or Marinara Sauce works well too)
Shredded Cheese – We chose shredded mozzarella, but you can do whatever works!
Favorite Pizza Toppings – Sausage and pepperoni are an easy choice they’re sure to love!
Lunchbox or Container to Separate Food – Any bento style box is perfect for DIY lunchables!
Go ahead and separate everything into their own containers, and place them in the lunch box. Not only are these super fun for your child to make, they’re super easy to prepare!
Be sure to add some healthy options to eat with the pizza slider for a well-rounded lunch. When your child brings back their lunch, you’ll know exactly what they ate and what was left behind.
Sometimes packing lunches can seem like one more thing on the to-do list, but it gives you a great advantage being able to encourage healthy eating choices in your child.
What are your go to lunch box ideas? What’s your kid’s favorite choice?
