Why You Need a Morning Routine That Focuses on You

You need a morning routine that focuses on you! Self care is so important to make sure that you are getting some as a mom!

This post is sponsored by Dove Hair Care but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Mornings are C-R-A-Z-Y at my house. I miss the days where they could be slow, relaxing, and take as long as you need to wake up and get the day started. I don’t think that has happened in a LONG time. The kids are up and ready to start the day by 7AM. They’re hungry, loud, busy, and usually quite demanding. They have a long list of requests for the morning and little patience to wait. Meanwhile, I am groggy and wondering how long it’s going to take for my coffee to be ready. Over the years, I have done my best to come up with a morning routine to settle the chaos, and help everyone know what to expect. When the kids know what to expect, it helps the morning go much smother.

With Jase starting summer school this month, I’ve had the chance to try out a morning routine to find what works for us before school starts in the Fall. There has been a big difference with before school morning routine vs the morning routine we have done when we had no where to be. The before school morning routine has a much bigger focus on ME! I have made time for myself to get up, get ready, and do what I needed to do without kids hanging at my feet. Instead of waking up to my kids running around the house, I am waking up to an alarm before they are even awake. Let me tell you…it has made all the difference.

I am not a morning person AT ALL. So every time my alarm goes off I really want to ignore it, roll over, and go back to sleep until a kid drags me out of bed. But I have done everything I can to push past that feeling and just get out of bed, after that first step, things flow easily and I am so glad I got up early.

If I lost you at getting up early…let me tell you why you need a morning routine that focuses on you.

Focusing on you brings life.

Seriously, it’s true. When you take time to focus on you, you feel rejuvenated! Focusing on yourself gives you this new life and energy that you need to power through everything else. When we stop focusing on ourselves and shows up in everything we do. We get burnt out. We become exhausted. We grow weary in what we are doing. Focusing on yourself breathes life into everything you do for the rest of the day.

Focusing on you brings confidence.

Have you ever put on an outfit and just felt really good in it? What about a new hair cut that made you feel like an entirely new person? When you roll out of bed, put everyone together and run out the door without any focus on yourself your confidence takes a hit. Sure, you’re a mom, I get it. You don’t have to do your make up every day or put on your Sunday best, but if you give yourself time to focus on yourself a little, you’ll feel more confident in your skin. Whether that’s throwing in some Dove Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo, or taking a shower with Dove Thickening Ritual Shampoo and Conditioner. It doesn’t matter how much time you have, even a few minutes can bring you confidence. Dove Volume and Fullness Dry Shampoo allows you extend your wash. It refreshes hair between washes, instantly removing oil, while adding volume and fullness. Dove Thickening Ritual Shampoo & Conditioner is designed to help your hair with what you need most. Whether it’s a creating stronger hair or repairing damaged hair, it will help you get the treatment you need for healthier hair! For over a decade, Dove has been working to make beauty a source of confidence, not anxiety. Beauty is not defined by shape, size or color – it’s feeling like the best version of yourself! So the more you focus on yourself, the more confidence you’ll have.

Focusing on you shows that you matter too.

Sometimes one of the biggest lessons we forget to teach our kids is how to take care of themselves too! Our feelings, emotions, happiness, and more matter just as much as everyone else. It isn’t selfish to take time to focus on ourselves. We matter too! By showing our kids that we value ourselves, it teaches them to value who they are too. Focusing on you is important because you are important!

If that doesn’t convince you…try it! Give yourself one week and start with a morning routine that focuses on you! Start your day early, set aside time for yourself, and see how it changes your day. Refresh and revitalize yourself and your confidence by making Dove a part of your morning routine, whether you have five minutes or an hour. Then focus on everything and everyone else, you will be surprised at how much your attitude changes and you’ll be convinced to never turn back!

How does your morning routine focus on YOU?

You deserve to exist, with the same grace and love You deserve to exist, with the same grace and love that you so freely give to your family. It’s not just about holding space for them; it’s about holding space for you, too.

You don’t have to shrink yourself to make room for others.

You deserve to take up space too.
Sometimes, the habits that helped us survive becom Sometimes, the habits that helped us survive become the hardest to unlearn. Those patterns once kept you safe, but now you’re learning they don’t need to anymore.

Give yourself grace—you’re unlearning survival. Healing takes time, and with each layer you peel back, you’re discovering the person you’ve always been beneath the survival.

And if you’re anything like me, you’ll really learn to love her. ❤️
✨ NEW SEASON ✨ I’m not a big fan of change. ✨ NEW SEASON ✨

I’m not a big fan of change. My nervous system gets all panicky and tends to over research every possibility that could take place. It likes to tell me safety is in the details.

But I know that’s not true.

This year has been a big year of growth for me in this department. Trauma told me control was my safety, but the truth was all I ever had was a false sense of control.

This year has offered plenty of opportunities for me to say, “Okay God, you have my yes, wherever that leads.”

No over research. No over analyzing. No predicting every possibility. No trying to control the outcome.

Just a heart that says, “Yes.”

Even when I don’t understand. Even when I’m nervous how it will turn out. Even when it feels like right now isn’t bad. Even when my heart’s confused.

Even when….

God has been asking us both a lot lately, “Do I have your yes, no matter what that looks like?” Friday was the end of a season for Chad working at the Appliance Guys, and today starts a new season of a new company. It was NOT an easy decision, and it came with a lot of tears (mainly from me - are you surprised?). His boss, where he’s been for the last almost six years, has been an incredible support for our family as we walked through some of the hardest seasons of our family. They will always hold a special place in our heart.

But God said “it’s time” and my faith-filled husband said “Yes.” I have to admit, I don’t envy how hard this decision was for him. It affects us both, yes. But he had to walk it out. And I’m so grateful for His leadership and faith to Jesus to step into the next season when there are so many unknowns.

Sometimes, all God wants to know is does He have our “YES” no matter what that means. No matter what that changes.

May I live my life in a way that has an open heart to hear from God and a willingness to say “YES” even when….

(PS he was so thrilled I made him take this photo. 😂 But I know this season will be one we forever ever want to remember, because God always shows His faithfulness).
I wonder if they would have chosen life for her. I wonder if they would have chosen life for her.

I wonder if they would have seen what was growing inside of her, and the fight that was about to come on the other side, if they would have said her life was worth saving.

I wonder if they would have discounted her before she had a chance.

I wonder if they would have made a prediction about her quality of life and deemed her not worth the cost.

I wonder if they would have saw the life saving measures she would need and decided that it was worse to let her live.

I wonder if they would have saw everything that could go wrong, the bleak prognosis, and compared her to statistics.

I wonder if they would have made a choice to encourage a decision that robbed us all of the miracle we see today.

Whether 48 hours or 4 years - her life has changed mine for the better. It’s heartbreaking to think someone may have once told me she wasn’t worth it.
