If I was sitting across from a new momma, the smell of brand new baby in the air, there would be one important thing I would want to tell her. In fact, even if I was sitting across from a momma with a toddler running around squealing with delight I would tell her this exact same thing. One important thing that can change the way you mother. One important piece of advice that goes beyond any piece of advice you could carry around in that exhausted brain of yours.
Trust yourself.
I know you’re looking at me with those scared eyes thinking that you have absolutely no clue what you are doing, but let me say it again.
Trust yourself.
You can read all the books, you can ask for all the advice, you can hear what every expert has to say but no one person is going to know your baby like you do, sweet momma. That feeling in your gut, it’s there for a reason. That inner tug, it’s guiding you to do what is best for your baby, for you, for your family.
Too many times we keep searching for the answers to becoming the perfect mother, doing the right things, and helping our baby reach all those milestones perfectly that we forget to look at our baby and discover what they need. Every child is different. You know your baby. You know their personality. You know their temperament. You know exactly the way the need to be held to fall asleep. You know exactly the way they like to be rocked, patted, and bounced. You know your baby better than anyone else.
Trust yourself.
Don’t stress your little mind out worrying about doing it wrong, and trust that little voice within you. You know your baby, and you can do this. Trust who you are as a mother. You’re going to do just fine.
